Nurse immunisers get a boost

Our region’s residential aged care facilities are now better prepared to provide vaccinations to older people in their care.

More than 3230 new nurses received funding from COORDINARE to complete training to become authorised nurse immunisers.

One nurse welcomed the opportunity to refresh her skills:

While some nurses had experience with immunisations, they did not have the training or credentials to provide vaccinations independently of a medical officer.

These new roles will support better access to vaccinations for older people in residential care, reducing risks from conditions such as influenza and COVID-19.
